Whether you have dry scalp or oily scalp or early grey-ing of hair or hair loss, etc. it can definitely be because of wrong eating habits or less nutrition reaching your hair.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Include lots and lots of proteins in your diet, when the basic structure of hair is proteins. For example, Fish, Red Meat, Chicken, Milk, Pork and yogurt. Nuts and beans are also a good source of proteins.

WHOLE GRAINS, NUTS AND SEEDS are natural sources of proteins, lipids, essential oils, amino acids and also dietary fiber. Try having them every day without a miss and you’ll notice the change.

GO NUTS

Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, cashews, etc. are very nutritious and versatile too. That’s why they become super easy addition to your diet. Add nuts to salads, desserts, savory dishes and some kind of beverages as well. Have them either raw or toasted. They can be your take away munchies if you want.

BRAZIL NUT-THE SUPER NUT

A kernel of Brazil nut has 60-70% lipids, 15-20% proteins, sulfur and vitamin A. It also works as an antioxidant. Brazil nut increases hair growth. But don’t eat too much of it as excess intake can be bad for your body.

NEED FOR SEED

Including Sesame seeds (til) in your diet will work wonders on your hair. The best part is it can be eaten raw or toasted. It can be sprinkled on salads or on savory dishes. Sesame seeds have a special place in Asian cuisine. Chinese use both black and white sesame in their food.

Pumpkin seeds are rich in magnesium. You can straight away eat them after extracting and washing off the sticky pulp.

BEAUTY WITH GRAIN

Whole grains are coarse and not powder in texture. This keeps all the nutrition locked in. There’s a lot of variety to choose from – rolled oats, whole wheat breads, porridge, pasta made of semolina (suji), etc. These are very simple to cook with absolutely zero expertise required. You may also dump your mainstream wheat flour biscuits for the whole wheat biscuits.

SUPER GRAIN, QUINOA

Quinoa is an ancient grain of the Pre-Colombian America. The Incas called it “Mother grain”. Quinoa was considered sacred probably because of nutritional qualities it possesses. It’s a complete protein package as it contains all the 8 essential amino acids. Quinoa protein repairs the hair surface. Especially, if you have ethnic or curly hair, you must treasure this.

MAGNESIUM POWER

Magnesium is considered supreme for hair nutrition. It dissolves the calcium deposits on the hair follicle, preventing hair loss. The major source of magnesium is found in walnuts. In addition to that, walnuts also contain omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. It also shows natural anti-dandruff properties.

Brazil nut deserves a special mention here as it is 94% magnesium.

Other sources of magnesium are – almonds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, quinoa and sesame seeds.

BYE BYE DRY HAIR

In Chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s words, people who have dry hair must eat foods that are warm, moist, oily, smooth and nourishing. To make it less complicated, eat lots and lots of fruits and dairy products!
Heavy foods in terms of digestion and too spicy foods are not for you if your hair is dry. Beans can also be avoided. Use spices like cardamom, cumin and ginger daily in your food.

BYE BYE OILY HAIR

Oily hair is the result of too much heat in the body. There’s a simple rule : stay away from oil. Additionally, you should avoid spicy foods like Mexican or Chinese. Also avoid acidic foods like citrus fruits and vinegar. Sour and fried foods are not for you.
Here comes the happy part. Eat cool like smoothies made out of skimmed milk yogurt. Drink lots and lots of water and have cucumber however possible. You better reduce your meat consumption. Too much tea or coffee or alcohol also harms your hair.
